About The Mindful Mommy
Giving the Guidance and Support Parents Need
As a Clinical Psychologist
My name is Dr. Emily Guarnotta, though many of my clients simply call me Emily. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in New York with a special interest in helping mothers and fathers adjust to parenthood. I have a private practice on Long Island, where I see clients struggling with a wide variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and substance use disorders.
I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, CA. I have experience working in local community mental health clinics, outpatient and residential addiction treatment facilities, and with children and parents in a school setting. I have also completed additional training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, perinatal grief and loss, and mindfulness-based stress reduction.
As a Mother
My interest in working with mothers and fathers transitioning to parenthood arose when I had my first child. Like many new moms, I was expecting to feel some baby blues, but I was surprised to see how much becoming a mother affected me both physically and emotionally. During that time, I found myself turning to the very same tools that I had been sharing for years with my clients.
This site was born (no pun intended) out of this experience. On these pages, you will find information and resources on a variety of topics pertinent to the perinatal and postpartum periods. I hope that this site helps soon-to-be and new parents adjust to this challenging but beautiful experience called parenthood.
