About The Mindful Mommy
As a Clinical Psychologist
My name is Dr. Emily Guarnotta, though many of my clients simply call me Emily. I am a licensed psychologist in New York with a special interest in helping mothers and fathers cope with the challenges of parenting. I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, California. In the past I have worked in local community mental health clinics, outpatient and residential addiction treatment centers, and with children and parents in a school-setting. I have also completed additional training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, perinatal grief and loss, and mindfulness-based stress reduction. In my private practice on Long Island I see clients struggling with a wide variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.
As a Mother
My interest in working with mothers and fathers transitioning to parenthood arose when I had my first child. Like many new moms, I expected to feel some baby blues, but I was surprised to see how much becoming a mother affected me both physically and emotionally. During that time, I found myself turning to the very same tools that I had been sharing for years with my clients. This site was born (no pun intended) out of this experience. On these pages, you will find information and resources on a variety of topics pertinent to parenting. I hope that this site helps moms and dads adjust to this challenging but beautiful experience called parenthood.
Feel free to browse the pages on this site and send in any questions, thoughts, or suggestions you may have. If there is a particular topic that you would like to see, please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you!
